What is freeze-drying?

Our freeze dryer . What is a freeze dryer?

We have been freeze-drying our own mare’s milk since 2023.

Freeze-drying is a way of preserving food. During this process, water is removed from the product while it remains frozen, through a process called sublimation. The mare’s milk is placed on trays and frozen. These trays are placed in the freeze-drying machine. in a refrigerated vacuum room where heat is carefully applied in a controlled manner. This causes all the water present in the form of ice to evaporate immediately, without first changing into the form of water. Sixty liters of frozen mare’s milk are freeze-dried in a so-called “outlet”.

The result is around ten percent solids, known as mare’s milk powder. A major advantage of this preservation method is that all the vitamins and proteins remain undamaged.

Freeze-drying process

  • Filtering: The milk obtained is filtered.
  • Freezing: The mare’s milk is poured into shallow containers and flash frozen. This step is important to preserve the structure of the milk.
  • Freeze-drying: The frozen mare’s milk is dried under vacuum conditions in a special freeze-drying device. The water sublimates directly from the solid state (ice) to the gaseous state (water vapor) without passing through the liquid state. This process preserves the nutrients and extends the shelf life.
  • Pulverization: The freeze-dried mare’s milk powder is then ground and processed into a fine powder.
  • Packaging: The finished horse milk powder is packaged in airtight containers or bags to protect it from moisture and light.
Horse milk powder in capsule form: Freeze-dried horse milk capsules are capsules containing freeze-dried horse milk powder. They are composed of 100 % pure freeze-dried mare’s milk and contain no preservatives, flavorings or colorings.
